What is confidentiality?

Confidentiality is about only sharing your information with people who need to know. CRASAC is a confidential service and you have a right to confidentiality. Wherever possible we will let you know if there is anything we can’t keep confidential. 

Do I have to tell you my name?

You can tell us as much or as little as you want to, you do not have to give us any details to get support and we will not force you to. You can always make up a name if you don’t want to give us your real name. 

If you choose to give us details about yourself when you contact us (such as your full name, address or phone number) then we would ONLY use this information if you or someone else is at risk of serious harm (see below). 

Will you have my phone number or email address?

When you call the helpline we do not collect your phone number and we will only have the details you choose to give us over the phone.

When you email, you can set up an account specifically to contact us on and make up a name if you don’t want to give us your real name. 

It is possible for someone to see the history of the sites you have visited on your  computer, but not if you have deleted your history. If you want to delete this history see ‘cover your tracks’ for advice about how to do this.

When would you have to share what I tell you with others?

We may have to share information in order to keep you or others safe. This would be:

• If you (or someone you know) is under 18 or a vulnerable adult and are at serious risk of being hurt or abused
• If you are a serious threat to your own or someone else’s life

Even in these circumstances we will always try and discuss this with you first unless doing so would put you or others at further risk of harm.

Are there any other circumstances when you would have to share my information?

We have a legal obligation to pass on information if:
 • We receive information about acts of terrorism or money laundering
 • We receive a court order to share your information

Do you record telephone calls?

We don’t record your calls, your conversation with CRASAC is confidential between you and us. We keep notes about what you have told us that no one outside CRASAC will see. The notes are so that we can look back at them together if you contact us again and are kept safely.

Will your number appear on the telephone bill?

The telephone number may appear in your list of dialled calls on your mobile. If you don’t want people to see the number in your list of dialled calls, you should delete this from your called number list.

If you call from a landline, our number is not hidden and therefore may appear on your phone bill.

Where can I find out more about confidentiality and what might happen if you share my information?

You can ask us about confidentiality if you are unsure so you can make up your mind about what contact details to give.

Data Protection

Privacy Statement:
CRASAC takes your privacy and data protection rights very seriously. We actively ensure that there are appropriate technical controls in place to protect you and your personal details. You can visit and engage with our website, and the documents it contains, without disclosing any personal information.
CRASAC will only collect, process and store information about you that you have willingly provided and will be open and clear about what we collect what we will use it for.

We have a Privacy Notice that tells you what we do with your personal data when you use our services, donate to us or visit us either in person or on our website.
